I went across the tallest bridge in Ecuador — Here's What You Need to Know

A few years ago, I found myself in Ecuador doing something I definitely wasn’t expecting — walking across a massive suspension bridge high above the landscape.
I’ve traveled throughout Ecuador plenty of times, but experiences like this are what keep bringing me back. You can go from major cities and hotels to mountains, waterfalls, small towns and adventures like this in what feels like no time at all.
And yes, once you're standing in the middle of a bridge looking straight down, it feels a lot higher than it looked from the ground.
What Was the Experience Like?
The walk itself is the experience.
As you move farther across, the bridge starts to feel very different from solid ground. You can feel the movement beneath you, the wind becomes much more noticeable, and suddenly you're very aware of just how far you've walked.
The views, though, are incredible.
You're surrounded by Ecuador's mountainous landscape, and from the center of the bridge you get a perspective that's almost impossible to appreciate from the road.
Would I do it again? Absolutely.
Is It Scary?
That depends on how comfortable you are with heights.
I'm usually willing to try just about anything while traveling, but even I had a few moments where I looked down and thought:
"Why did I agree to this?"

If heights aren't your thing, this might be a challenge. If you're looking for something memorable and a little outside your comfort zone, that's exactly what makes it worth doing.
What I'd Recommend
If you're planning an experience like this in Ecuador:
Wear comfortable shoes with good grip.
Don't bring unnecessary loose items.
Check local weather conditions before going.
Follow the operator's current safety instructions.
Bring a camera — but don't spend the entire experience looking through it.
Give yourself time to actually enjoy the scenery.
And if you're afraid of heights, don't look down immediately.
